MCVET maintains a budget of approximately $3.9 million dollars. We receive 81% of our funding from competitive federal grants. The remaining 19% is generated from fund raising efforts. As a 501 (c) 3 organization, MCVET directs 88% of the budget towards support for program and services. These activities directly assist our veterans in reclaiming their lives.
MCVET has over 100,000 square feet of property that can accommodate up to 300 veterans daily, 44 full-time/part-time employees, and over a half-dozen partners who provide services to our veterans onsite. We maintain a large inventory of equipment and supplies to support our continuum of care. The majority of our systems and equipment were purchased at the start of our program. A large percentage of our equipment was “gently-used” when we acquired it. We are overwhelmed with the need to replace antiquated equipment and supplies that were purchased over 15 years ago. We are also in dire need of repair for our elevator. The flooring in the permanent housing facility has buckled in some places and is in need of shoring.
As MCVET prepares for the future, we anticipate an increase in the number of veterans who seek our help. According to a 2005 Veterans Affairs study of 168,528 Iraqi veterans, 20% were diagnosed with psychological disorders, including 1,641 with PTSD. Those with Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI) are also expected to present themselves in need of medical and mental health services. It is pertinent that MCVET be in a position to continue its mission of helping homeless veterans return to their communities as productive citizens.
